Hey Kids!! It's Time For The Annual Huck Finn Youth Fishing Day
Ah!! The days of our youth, the days of building a raft and floating it on the pond in the field, pretending to be Huckleberry Finn, your head filled with dreams of being on the raft as it lazily drifts down the meandering Mississippi River.
|
Huck Finn and Jim On The Raft |
Enjoy a fun filled morning as you reminisce with your children about those carefree days of your youth. Let visions of Mississippi Paddle Wheelers or that home made raft you poled your way across the pond on fill your head as you regale your children with tales of your youth.
Share some of those memories on Sat April 24th. Bring your youngsters out to Elgin pond in Uxbridge and reminisce about those days. Teach your kids the fine art of fishing as you join in this Uxbridge Youth Fishing Event.
Added This Year an accessible fishing platformthanks to help from the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Township of Uxbridge making this event wheel chair accessible.
No Fishing Gear No Problem There is free fishing rod and reel loaners and free bait. One of the first things you do is line up for your poles and cup of worms....always a challenge to get the wiggly worms on those little hooks, but there is usually a local celebrity or two that can be coerced into lending a hand, it's all in the fun of the day. This event is well attended by parents, grandparent and plenty of kids, even in the rain the kids excitement is contagious. |

Kathy...how neat for the kids & the adult-kids, too. Hope that it is a great weather day for all. The closest thing to your Huck Finn is the Macomb county Anchor Bay 'Fishfly Festival' [try to say that fast or 3 X in a row] but that usually comes in late May or June. Where we live now, we don't see any fishfly, but in Harrison Twp. they were crunchy underfoot & clung to anything near an outside light. Have a fun time. Have a great weekend, too.
Barb
hi Kathy,
Sounds like a wonderful family day....I used to love going fishing with my Dad and brothers when I was a kid. Are you taking your Grandchildren?
Jo
Hi Kathy: Great activity to get families to join together in a wholesome activity.
Barb - I'm not into fishing personally but I believe the timing coincides with the opening of trout season and they stock the pond just before so all the kids have a great chance of catching one or more.
Jo - We have for the last several years but will likely miss this years ..... have to get my taxes done. and they are likely comming here and will fish in the back yard .....
Jane - it has always been a good time for all ..... we have really enjoyed it the last several years.
It sounds like a really awesome event, Kathy and it's tomorrow!!! Enjoy!
Hi Kathy - what fun Huck Finn Day must be. When I was a kid I loved playing Tom Sawyer/Huck Finn/Becky Thatcher games, and visiting Mark Twain's cave in Hannibal Missouri was so much fun!
Dagny - unfortunately I have an appointment to get ready for the tax man. I am going to have to miss it this year
Lottie - that sounds awesome
Kathy,
You really keep up to date on all these things. It seems like a good idea, but I've never heard of anything like it in the Mississauga area.
Brian
Brian - now if I just had the time to attend them all
It sounds like a great day. Cup of worms!!! Yuck!!! LOL
Janice - certainly not as tasty as a Timmies but then I suppose the fish would say Yuk to a Timmies
